In Arizona an estimated 100,000 grandchildren are being raised by their grandparents. Nationally, 4.9 million children under age 18 live in a household headed by their grandparent. These grandparents weren’t planning on being parents again. Their retirement plan likely did not include keeping abreast of the latest parenting techniques or arranging and paying for daycare. To help ease the transition and reduce the stress on these families local groups are offering support and educational programs. Arizona Grandparent Ambassadors is having its 3rd Annual Grandfamilies Summit Saturday January 25, 2014. They will have informative workshops and a legislative panel. The program is free, they provide childcare, lunch, snacks and transportation assistance. There isn’t an excuses not to attend.
